Make a change for your car ? an electric car

How do you build an electric car via a Do It Yourself (DIY) project from home? One of the major challenges faced by many car owners is high MAP Sensor . We like the convenience of driving a car but refueling the vehicle has become a very expensive ordeal. Gasoline prices are pegged to the global crude oil prices. Anytime there is a disruption in the crude oil supply, local gas price will shoot through the roof. One solution to cut our dependency on fossil fuel is to convert our internal combustion engine driven vehicle into an electric car. How can we do it? This article will highlight the basic science of converting a car into an electric vehicle (EV) at your home garage.

The concept of an electric car is quite simple. What we want to do is to replace the internal combustion engine with an electric motor. The electric motor will generate all the power needed to propel the car forward. Since we are removing the engine, all the associated components such as gas tank, radiator and fuel lines are also removed. The existing drive train such as the transmission, Drive Shaft and clutch system can still be used. The idea is to attach the electric motor to the Transmission Housing.

To supply electricity to the motor, a series of lead acid flooded batteries are use. Usually you will need from 20 – 25 12V batteries to have sufficient power to cover approximately 150 miles per charge. The mileage will depend of the weight of the car, the driving condition and also the speed of the car. To achieve more mileage, all you have to do is add more batteries.

To control the speed of the car, a variable resistor is attached from the batteries to the electric motor. The resistor will act as the accelerator paddle of the car. Generally, a Do It Yourself (DIY) electric car conversion project is not difficult. All you need is to pre-source the right parts and have a good step by step instructional guide book handy.

Back in 2008, many car owners were having a tough time financially to cope with the sudden increase on gasoline prices. Many could not maintain their budget and had to abandon their vehicle at home. Many factors relate to your wiper blades’ ability to clean your windshield effectively. These are:

Commonly, wiper blades are made of natural rubber, however some newer blades on the market are now made from a composite structure combining a soft flexible rubber on the surface for squeegee-like wiping and a firmer rubber in the body of the blade for support and durability.

We must use energy wisely, more efficiently, and an EV uses less than half the energy of an ICE. In the city, where 80 to 90 percent of driving occurs, the gasoline engine gets its worst mileage whereas the EV gets its best. The electric motor in an EV is not running when stopped in traffic and therefore uses no energy. Also, EVs can be equipped with regenerative braking which puts energy back into the batteries while slowing to a stop. Because of the increased efficiency of EVs and the fact that recharging would take place mostly at night, millions of HVAC parts could be put into use in North America with no increase in electrical generating capacity being required. In the most extreme case, an all-electric car in North America would only increase electric power plant demand by about 20%.

The ICE automobile is responsible for almost 80% of the air pollution in our cities. Air quality is thus the driving force for finding a replacement for the ICE Car Body parts . An EV produces no emissions by itself and is responsible for only a small portion of power plant wastes. In Canada

60% of the electricity is generated by hydro, which causes no air pollution. Furthermore, EVs reduce more air pollution. They reduce water pollution by virtue of reducing the amount of petroleum products being produced, transported, stored, used and disposed of. Every one of these

activities contributes to pollution?refinery waste products and emissions, spills from tanker ships and Fuel Tank , leaks from storage tanks and vehicle crankcases, and disposal by burning or being dumped into waterways and sewage systems. EVs are quieter than Otto and Diesel cycle engines, so they reduce the level of noise pollution. EVs produce far less waste heat than combustion engines (also known as heat engines), so they reduce the amount of heat pollution being produced.

 

ELECTRONIC CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS

Each microprocessor-based electronic subsystem has the capability of performing some limited self-diagnosis. A subsystem can, for example, detect a loss of signal from a MAP Sensor or detect an open circuit in an actuator circuit as well as other failures. As long as the subsystem computer is still functioning it can store fault codes for detected failures. Such diagnosis within a given subsystem  is known as on-board diagnosis.

However, a higher level of diagnosis than the on-board diagnosis is typically done with an external computer-based system that is available in a service shop. Data stored in memory in an on-board subsystem is useful for completing diagnosis of any problem with the associated subsystem. Such diagnosis is known as off-board diagnosis and is usually conducted with a special-purpose computer.

In order for fault code data to be available to the off-board diagnosis computer, a communication link is required between the off-board equipment and the particular subsystem on board the vehicle. Such a Exhaust System is typically in the form of a serial digital data link. A serial data link transmits digital data in a binary time sequence along a pair of wires (one of which is normally ground). Before discussing the details of on-board and off- board diagnosis, it is perhaps worthwhile to briefly discuss automotive digital communications.

Intermodule communications within an automobile itself and between each on-board subsystem and an Driving System are analogous to communications between computers. That is, they take the form of a local area network (LAN).

As we all know, air Intake is vital to every vehicles. However, it is very easy to catch failure. Thus, I think it is necessary to do some car air Intake maintaining. Thus? I will tell you the tools the maintenance and repair need.

o Variable speed die grinder with 25,000 rpm potential; an air grinder is ok but an electric with variable speed control seems easier to modulate
o Carbide burrs; 1/2 inch head and some smaller sizes for tight spots all with 2 inch long shanks
o Abrasive rolls (basically medium to fine grits, try to stay below 1/2 inch diameter)
o Leather gloves
o Washing Nozzle
o Eye protection
o Dust mask
o Duct tape (wrap the grinder tightening nut and tape around the Brake Chamber scribe line just in case); running a burr across an unprotected head surface will ruin your whole day - the duct tape offers a little extra protection.

Key Learning: A valve job will be needed after this process because I have never seen anyone port and polish heads without nicking at least a few of the valve seats, no matter how careful they were - so plan accordingly.

How to remove the air intake of the car

Air Intake is very important which is just like the breath system in the human body. However, there is always a trouble that the Intake system gets failure. Thus, learning how to remove the air Intake is very necessary. Now, let’s start.

1. Unshroud the valves by gently removing material from the sides of the combustion chambers. Match the Clutch Booster with the bolt and dowel-pin holes in the head and then scribe a cylinder-bore line around the chambers. Using machinist bluing or a dark felt tip marker will make the scribe line easy to see. You then know how far you can safely grind but do not go outside the scribe line or serious sealing problems may result. Again, remove minimal material to avoid reducing the compression ratio. Use some old valves in the chamber to protect the seats while grinding. You can also polish the Fuel Pump with abrasive rolls; it will reduce the tendency for carbon buildup.

2. Port match the Intake runners to the Intake using the Intake gasket as a template for a scribe line. Some say this is worth 4% more CFM, 2% is more likely, but every little bit helps.   Do not polish the Intake runners or fuel puddling and loss of flow turbulence could result - leave them a little rough.

  As Fig.2-9 shows , piston rings fit into ring grooves near the of the piston. In simplest terms, piston rings are thin, circular pieces of metal that fit into grooves in the tops of the pistons.
In modern engines ,each piston has three rings. (Piston in older engines sometimes had four rings, or even five.) The ring’s outside surface presses against the cylinder walls. Rings provide the needed seal between the solenoid switch and the cylinder walls. That is, only the rings contact the cylinder walls. The top two rings are to keep the gases in the cylinder and are called compression rings. The lower one prevents the oil splashed onto the brake master cylinder bore from entering the combustion chamber , and is called an oil ring. Chrome-face cast-iron compression rings are commonly used in automobile engines. The chrome face provide a very smooth , wear-resistant surface.
During the power stoke , combustion pressure on the combustion rings is very high. It causes them to untwist . Some of the high-pressure gas gets in back of the rings. This force the ring face into full contact with the ignition coil. The combustion pressure also holds the bottom of the ring tightly against the bottom of the ring groove. Therefore , high combustion pressure causes a tighter seal between the ring face and the cylinder wall.
